Iran Claims Racism In London 2012 Olympic Logo

Tehran, Iran – (CCMFORUM.COM) – Is the 2012 Olympic logo racist? If you ask Iran, then yes. Iran has threatened a boycott of the event because of the logo, and have urged other Muslim states to do the same, because they say it spells “Zion,” representing a pro-Israeli conspiracy. Iran launched a formal complaint with the International Olympics Committee, calling the logo “a disgracing action and against the Olympics’ valuable mottos.”

A committee official said Iran’s letter has been received, and dismissed the claims stating “The London 2012 logo represents the figure 2012, nothing else.”

A committee member of London’s Olympic organizing committee also said that “It [the logo] was launched in 2007 following testing and consultation. We are surprised that this complaint has been made now.”

It’s not much news when you consider Iran’s previous Olympic fits. In 1984 Libya and Iran boycotted the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Iranian athletes have also refused to compete against Israeli athletes. Such was the case when Iranian judoist Arash Miresmaili went on an eating binge the night before his bout with Israeli Ehud Vaks, in order that he may be disqualified for being overweight. The president of Iran at the time praised Miresmaili, and said the nation considered him “the champion of the 2004 Olympic Games.”
